Biography

Whether teaching students how to write incisive academic texts, working with clients to construct powerful business school applications, or working to make consumers understand the uniqueness of a product, Brian understands the value of effective communication. Indeed, as a writer, academic, editor, teacher, and entrepreneur, Brian has leveraged his abilities as a communicator to find success as an academic and entrepreneur.

After working as a human rights lawyer in South Africa and taking up doctoral studies at Yale University, in 2006, Brian cofounded Gurufi.com, a platform that connects students and parents with academic and admissions assistance. And, in 2016, Brian cofounded FourthWrite.com, a company dedicated to providing ethical and comprehensive admissions assistance for people applying to graduate and professional schools. In its first year of operation, FourthWrite has signed clients from Korea, Japan, China, Singapore, Dubai, Brazil, Libya, and the United States.

Brian taught writing at Harvard University from 2012-2016, during which time he won the Derek Bok Certificate of Distinction in Teaching Award seven times.

Brian earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington & Lee University; his Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan; and his Master of Arts, Master of Philosophy, and Ph.D. from Yale University.
